Much light is thrown on each verse, but the author tends to expound every verse as a moral maxim or wise observation, and takes no account of the possibility that Solomon used rhetorical speech and irony in presenting 'evangelistic' arguments. To this reviewer, he misses the point, but nevertheless his explanations of the literal point of each verse are an essential first rung on the ladder to seeing the ultimate point.
