Publisher's note.
William Henry Green (1825-1900) was among the foremost Hebrew scholars of his day. He wrote extensively against the Higher Criticism and his books are still widely appreciated. This work on the Book of Job is somewhat different in character, being a survey rather than a formal commentary. The result is eminently readable and useful to preacher and general reader alike as it tracks the overriding theme throughout. In view of Green's insight into the liberal mindset it is somewhat disappointing that he treats Job's friends so gently rather than exposing the emptiness of their works-based views. It was first published in 1874 this and has been carefully re-typeset for this edition.
